Remembering Bobby Turner

Bobby Turner

Maine Vintage Race Car Association remembers Bobby Turner. The Hall of Fame driver from Sanford, Maine was highly decorated. A trailblazer, Bobby set fast time at Stafford Speedway’s inaugural Spring Sizzler in 1972. Teaming with fellow Hall of Famer Dave Coutermarsh, he would be unstoppable during the final three modified features on the old Beech Ridge clay/dirt surface in 1985. A fierce competitor throughout a decades-long career, Bobby won races all over New England, but maintained his roots in Maine. He was an integral presence as MVRCA took flight nearly 20 years ago, served on the Hall of Fame nomination committee, as well as an advisor to the board of directors. His racing journey culminated in 2012 as he was elected to the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame. Bobby was a character, an important member of our organization, and will be dearly missed.
